Felix Dames Music | About
The Berlin based artist Felix Dames began his musical career in the nineties. Born in Göttingen in 1975 he grew up in a small but euphoric party scene. Through weekly trips to legendary clubs like Aufschwung Ost (later Stammheim Kassel) and inspired by the wild trance and techno parties of the early years, he developed a true passion for electronic music. These influences can still be felt in his productions today. Future-oriented and open to the latest technologies and production possibilities, Felix sound has constantly developed at the pulse of time. Today he mainly produces Minimal Techno, Tech-House, Deep-House, Chill-Out and Ambient.
His music is rhythmically straight to the point, but tempts the mind to think and the soul to feel. Deeply saturated, basses near subsonic scope, abstract soundscapes, and melodies to fall in love with, combined with an uncompromisingly danceable beat define Felix's sound.
The musical foundation of his work was laid in his youth. For many years he played the violin, was a singer in a band and explored many different instruments. But when electronic music reached Felix's ears for the first time, it was clear where the journey was headed.
His first tracks were created with a 4-track tracker on the internal music chip of a Commodore Amiga 500 computer. While his DJ friends spent their money on vinyl, Felix worked on construction during the holidays to be able to afford his own and better equipment.
He already produced his first album "Vlix-Trax" in 1996 using only an Atari ST computer and the E-mu EMAX II sampler and sold it without any distribution channel by hand.
In 1997 he composed the film music for the feature film "Dark" with similar minimalist means. Directed by Phillip Stennert and Jacob Ziemniki.
Together with Konstantinos Athanassiadis (DJ XDB) he founded the project "Dienzephalon" which was signed to Nova Tekk in 1999. Various releases followed on Liquid Audio Soundz, Naja Records, Global Trance Network, Sub Terranean as well as their first album "Debut" in 2001. Releases on various artist compilation Pulse Vol.10 & 11, Tantrance Vol.11, Planet Goa Vol.4 and licensing of "Beyond Underground" by Spirit Zone Records for the "Global Psychedelic Chill Out Vol.2" compilation.
With the collapse of music sales through illegal downloads around 2002, Nova Tekk unexpectedly went bankrupt and Dienzephalon's second album was never released. By this time, Felix had already moved to Berlin to pursue his second passion and study digital film art, taking a break from his music career. Since 2003, Felix has been working full-time as a motion designer and compositing artist for various renowned Berlin advertising agencies and post-production companies.

Felix continued to produce music, but focused on motion design, compositing, 3D animation and post production for many years. He also used his musical talent in this work environment and was responsible for various sound mixes and mastering for TV commercials. In 2009 he composed the advertising music for the TV campaign Toptarif Internet GmbH.
In order to give his music career a new impulse, coupled with the conviction that in the digital age artists can market themselves and do not necessarily need a label to do so, he released the minimal tech house EP Neustart in 2013 on his own. Without any promotion activities, Neustart achieved a certain worldwide attention.
With the EP Horizontale Dimension, released 28.02.2015, his most successful release as a performer with his civil name to date, he reached a much larger audience. German TV station RTL2 used the entire EP several times in the reality soap "Berlin Tag und Nacht" (Berlin Day and Night), which increased his popularity and sales figures developed positively.
The marvelous track "Moving On In Time" on the EP Primary Amplitude, released 28.02.2016, revealed once again Felix's potential and the enormous scope of his productions.
The EP Indications Of Decay, released 27.09.2019, shows a meanwhile matured artist who becomes aware of a progressive process of change. Even though this may not be immediately apparent at first glance, Felix processed personal and family changes and reflects self-critically on life and meaning.
With the concept album Zeitgeist Corona, released on 19.06.2020, Felix fulfilled himself a long cherished wish and produced, on this occasion, within a few weeks a pure ambient album with almost cinematic demands. In it he processes thoughts and impressions, positive and negative feelings as well as fears and uncertainties of the Corona pandemic. Economically affected by the Corona crisis itself, Felix used the time to consistently work through the most important topics chronologically during the lockdown period. In this way he created a project for himself to gain something positive from that difficult time and to offer his listeners a contemporary masterpiece of electronic sound art, which Felix primarily wants to be understood as exactly that.
With his latest release, the minimal techno EP Hybrid Mind, released on 03.05.2024, Felix Dames once again manages to skillfully combine a wide range of different productions on one EP. The diversity of the individual tracks impressively reflects Felix's creativity and his hybrid mind, which refuses to be pinned down stylistically and cannot be categorized in predefined categories. The EP Hybrid Mind thus reflects the current development of electronic music, in which almost any style can merge with one another. Retro, hard and trance influences from the nineties are coming back to life and the music scene as a whole is hardly more open and carefree than in recent times. A development and new creative freedom that Felix greatly appreciates and would like to emphasize with this EP.
